About The Author

Bvute was born and spent his childhood in the rural Honde Valley area of Manicaland Province in Eastern Zimbabwe on the border with Mozambique. His childhood in the naturally and culturally rich Honde Valley made a lasting impact on his life as detailed in his autobiography. Interest in writing developed late in his life, only publishing his first book, the autobiography four years after taking early retirement. The motivations for writing each of his three published books are given in their respective prefaces.

Education and Training

Bvute completed his primary education at St Peter’s Mission Primary School in Honde Valley before proceeding to secondary school at St Mary Magdalene’s in the Nyanga area of the same Province. Following disruption to his secondary school education during Zimbabwe’s (then Rhodesia) civil war of the mid to late 1970s, he was forced to join his parental family, which had already moved to Salisbury (now Harare) as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). There, he completed his secondary school education.

He proceeded to study Economics at the University of Zimbabwe, graduated in 1985. Later, during his working career, he attained postgraduate qualifications in Economics from the University of South Africa and in Strategic Management with a distinction from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom (UK). He qualified for the Programme in Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management also with a distinction from the University of South Africa’s Centre for Business Management.

As a beneficiary of company supported skills development programmes, Bvute attended several skills training courses in all the organisations he worked for including a six-months programme for Project Analysts immediately after graduating from university and before he joined the then Zimbabwe Development Bank (ZDB) as a Project Analyst.

Working Career

Bvute’s working career started as an Insurance Clerk in the capital city of Harare. He then moved to Gweru, capital of the country’s Midlands Province to work as a Government Tax Assessor. Cumulatively, he spent a total of twenty (20) years working in different capacities in commercial and development banking, starting as a Project Analyst and rising to the position of General Manager. He then spent one year as head of a continental Civil Society Organisation (CSO), the African Forum on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) which advocates on debt and development issues of African countries.
